The South Garden

The first daffodil of the year is blooming in the little cottage garden on the south side of the house:

There is a whole row of them along the north side of the house getting ready to bloom as well. When we were moving in, we had to put down a few inches of topsoil along that side to create a grade that sloped away from the house. Because we were under the gun, we unceremoniously dumped the soil down and tamped it right on top of whatever happened to be growing there. It’s neat to see that the daffodils survived!

I also spied these little guys – I think they’re hyacinths? Whatever they’re called, they’re pretty cute. I love the first blooms of the year!
